James E. Gubernatis

Gubernatis is a retired staff member at Los Alamos National Laboratory, New Mexico, USA. His research encompassed diverse areas, including nondestructive evaluation, quantum Monte Carlo methods, and the application of machine learning for materials discovery. He co-authored two books and served as the past chair of the American Physical Society’s Division of Computational Physics. He played a pivotal role in establishing the African School on Electronic Structure Methods and Applications and initiated the African Physics Newsletter. Gubernatis received a bachelor of science in physics from Loyola University Maryland and a master of science and doctor of philosophy from Case Western Reserve University. He is a Fellow of the American Physical Society and the South African Institute of Physics.
