Student Member Benefits

Free and reduced rates for students
We're dedicated to making student memberships affordable. The first year of membership is free for students joining APS for the first time. Undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in a degree-granting institution during the current year are eligible for free and reduced membership rates.
In addition to first-year free APS membership, students receive two divisions or topical groups free.
Get started as an APS member by logging into your myAPS account. If you do not have an account, you may create one.
Are you a high school student interested in joining APS? Contact the APS membership department to let us know.
More about student and early-career membership dues
We can support you for up to 15 consecutive years through our discounted dues pricing for students and early-career scientists: Four years of undergraduate eligibility, including Society for Physics Students membership, as well as six years of graduate eligibility and five years of early-career eligibility. If you're not pursuing a graduate degree as part of your career goals, APS can support you through up to four years of undergraduate membership followed by five years of early-career membership.
We limit our discounted dues pricing so we can support as many students and early-career scientists as possible, but we do understand sometimes you may face extraordinary circumstances. If you need to request an extension to your student membership status or let us know you're continuing your education, please contact the APS Membership Team.
