Conferences for Undergraduate Women and Gender Minorities in Physics

Find mentors, explore education and career opportunities and network with and learn from fellow students with varied backgrounds and perspectives in physics.

Who should attend

These conferences encourage applications from undergraduate physics, engineering, and science majors. We specifically encourage applications from:

  • Undergraduate students currently enrolled in a college/university in the U.S.
  • Undergraduate students 18 and over
  • Students from backgrounds traditionally not well-represented in physics
  • Community college students
  • First-generation college students
  • Undergraduate students who have not attended previously

Canadian applicants may apply to attend the conference site in Canada, and other applicants living outside the United States may attend the Gender Inclusive Community virtual events.

Students are expected to attend the entire conference as scheduled. If you have special circumstances, please contact us as soon as possible.

All attendees must comply with the APS code of conduct and APS Gender Inclusive Community norms.

How to apply and register

You will need an APS account to apply to attend. If you don't already have an one, you can create a free APS account before applying.

If accepted, and if you are not already an APS member, you will receive a complimentary student membership unless you opt out.

  • Create a free APS web account

Registration fees

The registration fee is $45.

After applying to attend a conference, applicants will be accepted or declined. After you have been accepted, you will need to register to confirm your attendance. The registration fee helps to offset some conference costs, including lodging and meals.

If your academic department will pay the registration fee on your behalf, please have a faculty or staff member from your department contact the APS team before you register.

To request a fee waiver, please email the APS team for the waiver application.

Housing, travel, and funding assistance

Students will be assigned to a room that is shared with one or more students; each student will have their own bed. Participants may specify roommate preferences on the registration form; otherwise, roommates will be assigned by the organizing committee. If you have additional questions or concerns, please contact us directly.

Attendees are responsible for arranging their own travel. Your academic department may be able to provide assistance with travel costs.

Presenting at a conference

The conferences have no dress code, and we encourage students to be comfortable, as well as prepared for possible weather conditions. Students who are presenting at the conference may wish to dress professionally. Poster presenters will be contacted directly with details about the poster session.

An inclusive and welcoming environment

CU*iP supports students from all backgrounds in advancing their education and careers in physics, and we take special consideration to ensure that our events are welcoming and accessible.

Dietary restrictions and accessibility needs

You can inform us of any dietary restrictions or accessibility needs during the registration process.
