Susan Marqusee

Susan Marqusee is distinguished professor of molecular and cell biology and chemistry at the University of California, Berkeley, and a Chan Zuckerberg Biohub investigator. Marqusee’s laboratory focuses on protein folding and dynamics, pioneering work in de novo peptide design, and the mechanical manipulation of single protein molecules.
From June 2023 to June 2026, Marqusee led the Biological Sciences Directorate as an assistant director at the National Science Foundation and represented the NSF on interagency councils. She earned her bachelor's degree from Cornell University and her M.D. and Ph.D. from Stanford University. She is an elected member of the National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
