Health and safety recommendations for APS events

We recommend that attendees review and follow some best practices to prevent the spread of respiratory illnesses.

APS is focused on ensuring safe and productive meetings for all participants, including those who are immunocompromised or otherwise at high risk for complications from respiratory diseases such as flu, RSV, and COVID-19, among others.

APS encourages our meeting and event attendees to monitor their health during an event. We also recommend that attendees review and follow some best practices to prevent the spread of respiratory illnesses:

  • Being vaccinated for relevant illnesses and having had all available boosters, though APS does not mandate vaccination status for meeting attendees
  • Taking an at-home COVID-19 or flu antigen test, if experiencing symptoms of respiratory illness
  • Wearing a well-fitting mask during meeting activities, if experiencing symptoms of respiratory illness or wishing to avoid catching a respiratory illness
  • Practicing good hygiene and hand washing

Masking at APS meetings

APS does not require or mandate masking at our events at this time. However, for those wishing to avoid catching or spreading respiratory illnesses, APS recommends wearing a well-fitting mask during meeting activities. To assess risk, meeting attendees may wish to review the CDC Respiratory Virus Activity Levels data.

For recent respiratory infections

If you have experienced symptoms of a respiratory illness, before attending an APS meeting in person, we recommend that you take the following precautions:

  • If you have mind illness, you may end isolation after your fever and other symptoms resolve.
  • Continue to take precautions around others, such as wearing a well-fitted mask, for about five days, as recommended by the CDC and American Lung Association.
  • Take an at-home flu or COVID-19 test.
